NAVWAR Celebrates Juneteenth

The NAVWAR Black Employment Program teamed up with employment teams at NIWC Atlantic and NIWC Pacific to host a One NAVWAR Juneteenth Celebration Wednesday, June 14. The cross-country hybrid event, titled “Discovering Our Roots,” featured keynote speaker Mr. Damon Fordham, Adjunct Professor of History at The Citadel and Charleston Southern University and expert in African American history and Gullah Geechee culture presenting from South Carolina, and a panel of enterprise leaders presenting from NAVWAR headquarters in California. The panel consisted of CMDMC LunYe’ Richards of NIWCPacific, Ms. Tammy Strayhorn of PEOC4I and Mr. Alan Philpott of PEOC4I. Panelists discussed the meaning of Juneteenth to their families, traditional celebrations and researching ancestral stories, among other topics. Happy Juneteenth!
